Research Outline

Boingo Market Research

Goals

To find the pricing model and contract length for the following ISPs: Silicon Travel, Senior TV, CareConnect, Spartan Net, Solution Inc, and StayFi.

Early Findings

Silicon Travel

  • Pricing: Standard Internet (DSL) - $28/month; SpeedPlus (Cable) - $42/month; VOIP only - $23/month
  • Prices are promotional for the first year only. After this, standard pricing is $32/month, $47/month and $28/month, respectively.
  • New signups have a one-time installation and set-up free of $60.
  • $100 charge for repeaters and/or range extenders.
  • There is an $85 new line installation fee, if applicable.
  • Contract length is not stated on their website. Since promotional pricing is a one-year duration, this allows us to infer that contracts are annual.

Senior TV

  • SeniorTV offers cable, satellite and TV packages. The focus for this research was solely on its internet offerings.
  • Pricing is available via quote only. Billing can be in bulk or individual accounts.
  • SeniorTV offers fibre optic connection tiers in 100MBps, 250MBps, 500MBps, 1 GBps. Pricing varies based on speed.
  • Pricing starts at $9.95/user/month. This would presumably be for larger accounts at the lowest speed option.
  • There is no information on the website regarding contract length.
  • There are no review websites or other information in the public domain where customers give an impression of their pricing or contract length.

CareConnect

  • CareConnect also offers additional services as whole IT provider for senior living. They offer managed service, concierge, TV, phone, internet, community messaging, wireless nurse call systems and more.
  • There is no pricing information for any of their services on their website. Prospective customers are invite to contact the company for a demo and custom quote.
  • There are no review websites or other information in the public domain where customers give an impression of their pricing or contract length.

Spartan Net

  • Unlike the previous companies, Spartan Net is not focused just on senior housing providers. They offer internet services to any multi-tenant community in the Grand Rapids and Greater Lansing, MI areas.
  • Pricing for the community owner/manager is not available on the public website. We also looked at the consumer side to see if any pricing information was available, but one has to sign up for an account before they can see this.
  • We did find one consumer review of Spartan Net with pricing information. It is an outdated review, so pricing may have changed. The pricing also include DirecTV subscription, as Spartan Net specializes in bundle deals. At the time, it was $60/month for 205 channels or $85/month for 400+ channels and internet. No pricing was listed on other review websites like Yelp.

Solutioninc

  • The only entity called "Solution Inc" is Solutioninc, a WiFi and hotspot management company headquarted in Canada. We assumed this was the correct company, simply as there were no internet service providers by the same name.
  • There is no pricing or contract length information on Solutioninc's website. Prospective customers are encouraged to contact the company for more information.
  • There are no review websites or other information in the public domain where customers give an impression of their pricing or contract length.

StayFi

  • StayFi is an internet service provider targeted to vacation rentals. It was only founded one year ago.
  • There is no pricing or contract information on the company's website. Prospective customers are encouraged to set up a demo to gain more information.
  • StayFi's main selling point is custom login screens that then collect data (name, email, etc) in order to feed into marketing lists. This also allows owners to establish their vacation rental 'brand' with the guest, creating additional touchpoints and opportunities.
  • The founder of StayFi only gives this insight into pricing: "Our customers start seeing a positive return within 3 – 6 months of installation depending on the number of homes and the breadth of their offering. We rent the devices and software at a low monthly fee, and we see customers after 6 months get bookings from their email list totaling 5-10x the monthly cost of their system."
  • There are no review websites or other information in the public domain where customers give an impression of their pricing or contract length.
