Early Findings

While there was no data on total office buildings built, we did find that the total value of private offices built in the first half of 2019 in the US was $8.12 billion.

The average cost per square foot of office space construction in the US was also between $100-$170.

Preleases for office buildings for 2020 and 2021 have decreased which has been countered by a pullback in construction completions.

Office space construction is still in demand near entertainment venues and amenities, as well as smaller, flexible offices and office space dedicated to co-working and alternate working methods.
There are an estimated 3 million on campus rooms/beds in the US, and 4 million off campus rooms for students.

While there was no data for 2019 construction, in 2017, 47,000 off campus beds were built nationwide by student housing developers.

Large scale university housing projects like that of University of California Davis are becoming more common, with a 3,300 bed $575 million development in a neighborhood near campus.

22% of all university students live in on campus style housing.

63% of all student housing is private rooms, vs. shared apartments or shared rooms.
The average university provides enough on-campus beds for 21.5% of its student population.
