• There have been 1,998 shootings so far in 2019 in Chicago.
• There were 215 shootings in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side of Chicago in the first 7 months of the year, almost 12% of the total number of shootings in the city during the same time period, according to data from the Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times and others.
• The Chicago Police Department recovered 7,000 guns per year that had been illegally owned or associated with a crime between 2013 and 2016, according to a report published by the mayor's office.
• 570 Chicago residents died by homicide between January 1st, 2018 and December 25th, 2018. Of the 570 deaths, 414 died by gun violence. 
• For the second year in a row, gun violence in Chicago fell. Homicides in 2018 dropped nearly 28 percent over 2016, to 561, and shootings plunged nearly 33 percent, to 2,391.
• The Associated Press recently reported that Chicago was on track to recover 10,000 guns in 2018.

• According to reports, the current number of people who have died due to gun shot in the third largest city in the U.S. in 2017, is now one incident higher compared to the statistics recorded in 2016.
• In 2017, Chicago had the most gun violence related incidents among all U.S. cities. Safety is becoming more and more important to the city’s residents, as well as anyone looking to move to the city.
• Murders and shootings reported in August 2019 in Chicago were down from Aug. 2018, according to data collected by Chicago police.
• Over 7,500 illegal guns were seized by officers in 2019, according to the Chicago police. This includes a raid at a home in Lawndale where 60 guns were recovered.
• Mayor Lori Lightfoot and CPD Supt. Eddie Johnson announced a new plan to track gun offenders, and all three Chicago Police Department detective areas now have nerve centers capable of processing surveillance video much faster than before.
•  Chicago Police announced that shootings in the city have hit a four-year low.
