Early Findings
Population Total for Ages 6-16
The U.S. Census Bureau projected that in 2019 there would be
24.8 million
children in the U.S.
ages 6-11
. The actual population for that age bracket in 2018 was
24.5 million
.
The U.S. Census Bureau also projected that in 2019 there would be
24 million
children in the U.S.
ages 12-17
. The actual population for that age bracket in 2018 was
23.8 million
. Since age 17 is outside the scope of the requested 6-16 age range, we can subtract the projected population total for 17 year-olds for 2019 (
4,142,425
) from the aforementioned
24 million
(ages 12-17), which equals 19,857,575.
Accordingly, the estimated number of children in the U.S. between the ages of 6 and 16 in 2019 amounted to 48.8 million (
24.8 million
+
19,857,575
).

Age 13:

2019 Population Data
While the U.S. Census Bureau's projected population totals cited above for 2019 were projections, the agency also reported actual population totals
for 2019
, though for different age brackets, which are provided below. The reason the citations in this section are to
this Google Doc
is because the data was only available in a downloadable Excel document.
In 2019, the number of children in the U.S. ages 5-9 totaled
20.212 million
.
In 2019, the number of U.S. children ages 10-14 totaled
20.827 million
.
In 2019, the number of children in the U.S. ages 15-19 totaled
