• The U.S. Census Bureau projected that in 2019 there would be 24.8 million children in the U.S. ages 6-11. The actual population for that age bracket in 2018 was 24.5 million.
• The U.S. Census Bureau also projected that in 2019 there would be 24 million children in the U.S. ages 12-17. The actual population for that age bracket in 2018 was 23.8 million. Since age 17 is outside the scope of the requested 6-16 age range, we can subtract the projected population total for 17 year-olds for 2019 (4,142,425) from the aforementioned 24 million (ages 12-17), which equals 19,857,575.
• Accordingly, the estimated number of children in the U.S. between the ages of 6 and 16 in 2019 amounted to 48.8 million (24.8 million + 19,857,575).
