To obtain market research into the future of work. Areas of interest are the proportion of companies in Emerging Markets struggling to find talent (skills gap) that meets their needs (and how does this compare against Developed Markets); the impact of this skills gap in Emerging Markets; the challenges in current ways of working (full-time) & reasons why freelancing is the future of work; growth rate of distributed / remote work globally (# of people, $ generated); growth rate of part-time / freelancer work globally (# of people, $ generated); challenges of Freelancing today; skills Verification (companies verifying skills of freelancers)

Early Findings

The Skill Shortfall

  • Approximately 67% of recruiters say it is harder to find talent than it used to be just about 5 years ago.
  • Among the same set of recruiters, 62% say it is harder now to find candidates of great quality when compared to 5 years ago.
  • It is believed by some 59% of recruiters that this is as a result of a shortfall in the skilled labor they are hoping to find. However, 52% say that it is the competition they are encountering with other recruiters looking for the same or similar candidates.

Shortfall in Different Markets

  • In markets such as Japan, approximately 89% struggle to find talent. In Romania 81%, and Taiwan 78%. This difficulty is as a result of the aging population, the need for skills shift, and finding the right blend of human strengths and technical skills.
