Remote Working During COVID-19

Goals

To research on remote working during the COVID-19 pandemic. Examples of insights are how communication time has been affected within teams and whether it is inconvenient to work from home. The research will inform a blog post.

Early Findings

  • A survey published on May 4, 2020 revealed that there are several inconveniences associated with working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. The following are the responses for different types of inconveniences and the share of respondents that resonated with each.
    • Concentration problems- 39% 
    • No direct contact with people, conversations, and meetings- 38% 
    • The interpenetration of professional and private life- 36% 
    • Difficulties in mobilizing to work- 31% 
    • Difficult communication with colleagues on business matters- 27% 
    • The need to adapt to the rest of the householders- 27% 
    • Not very comfortable working conditions- 26% 
    • No access to office equipment- 22% 
    • Lack of access to appropriate equipment- 21% 
    • Lack of clear procedures for working time records- 19% 
    • No access to high-speed internet- 12% 
    • Other-1% 
  • A survey by Slack revealed that almost half of new remote workers claim that working from home has affected their sense of belonging negatively.
  • About a third of new remote workers claim that they are struggling to stay productive.
  • Almost 23% of first-time remote workers are dissatisfied with working from home.
